Artone Studio vs Design Pickle: design subscription vs design and build studio
Artone Studio vs Design Pickle compared: a production design subscription versus a founder-led design and build retainer for technology companies.

Artone Studio is the better pick for technology companies that need product design, web, brand, development, and motion from one senior team, while Design Pickle suits teams that mainly need a steady queue of graphic production through a flat-rate creative subscription.
TL;DR: Design Pickle is a creative-as-a-service platform for graphic design, motion, illustration, presentations, and video editing, sold as a flat-rate subscription sized after a consultation. Artone Studio is an AI-native design and build partner at $5,000 a month, with our founder leading every engagement and a senior team covering product design, web design, brand identity, development, and motion. Design Pickle is built to move marketing assets through a request queue with next-business-day first drafts. We are built to help decide what to build, then design, build, and ship it. Design Pickle's own scope excludes UI/UX design, mobile and app design, and coding or development, which is most of what a product team needs. For technology companies past pre-seed that need product thinking and shipped work, not just a graphics queue, Artone is the better fit.
What each studio is
Artone Studio is a design and build partner for technology companies: AI companies, SaaS and software teams, and digital products, from funded startups and scaleups to established product teams. We were founded in December 2022 and bring 9+ years of industry experience. Every engagement is led by Razvan Badea, who joins product calls, helps decide what to build and how it should work, and reviews every deliverable before it ships. Senior specialists in product, web, brand, development, and motion do the work under his briefs.
Design Pickle is a subscription-based creative service platform founded by Russ Perry. It positions itself as a managed creative team for graphic design, motion, illustration, presentations, Canva templates, and video editing, with a branded request platform, Slack integration, and human review on deliverables. It is an official Canva partner and markets itself to startups and established brands that need scalable asset production rather than a product or engineering partner.
Pricing and value
Design Pickle does not publish standard plan prices on its site. Pricing is flat-rate and quote-based after a 30-minute call with a Creative Consultant, who sizes a plan to your volume and creative capacity. Capacity starts at a minimum of 2 creative hours per business day and can scale upward. A Production Coordinator is included from 4 hours per business day, and an Art Director from 8 hours. Accounts also choose a Base or Pro Platform tier before adding creative services. Billing is quarterly or annual and auto-renews. Design Pickle does not offer per-project purchases, and unused subscription time is not refunded. You can cancel before renewal so the plan stops at the end of the paid period.
Our Retainer is $5,000 a month: one request in progress at a time, with updates every other business day, across any discipline. Retainer Plus is $9,000 a month for two requests in progress at once. Both include unlimited revision rounds, cancel anytime, a pause once per 30-day cycle, and a 75% refund if the partnership is not a fit within the first week. For a single defined outcome, custom projects start at $2,000 with a 50/25/25 payment split, which Design Pickle does not offer, since it works only on subscription.
The price models answer different questions. Design Pickle sells daily creative hours sized to your marketing queue. Our retainer buys product judgment plus the design, code, and motion to ship. If you want to see how our pricing works in detail, the Artone FAQ covers plans, terms, and payment, or you can talk to us about your scope.
Delivery and speed
Design Pickle markets average 24-hour first drafts and says first drafts come back the next business day, with revisions included until the asset is right. Capacity is measured in creative hours per business day, so larger requests can take multiple days on a smaller plan, and unused daily hours do not roll over. Work is submitted through its request form and dashboard, with progress tracking and comments in the platform or Slack.
We send updates every other business day. A request can be small and finished by the next update, or large, like a product redesign or an MVP build, with several progress updates before final delivery. AI is built into how we work, so more directions get explored and prototypes get coded early, but the speed comes from the workflow, not from cutting the thinking.
Services and capabilities
Design Pickle's official scope covers graphic design, custom illustration, presentation design, motion graphics, video editing, Canva file delivery, and light web design as design-only mockups with no coding. Branding is listed as design only: creation of brand strategy or write-ups is not included. Its published limitations exclude UI/UX design, mobile or app design, advanced web design, coding, programming or development, content writing, research, 3D or CAD, and several other specialized formats.
Our scope is built around what a technology company ships:
- Product design: web and mobile apps, design systems, prototyping, UI/UX audits.
- Web design: landing pages and multi-page sites, built in Framer.
- Brand identity: guidelines, logos and marks, pitch decks, brand assets, social graphics.
- Development: Framer builds, full-stack web apps and MVPs, mobile apps, backend and APIs.
- Motion design: launch videos, logo reveals, and product animations.
The practical difference: with Design Pickle, a landing page or product screen arrives as design files and you still need a product designer or developer. With us, the same team designs it, builds it, and hands the site or product work over ready to use.
Collaboration
Design Pickle runs work through its own platform for briefs, tracking, approvals, asset storage, and versioning, with Slack integration for updates and requests. Higher-capacity plans add a Production Coordinator and Art Director. Support is available across time zones through the platform.
We work in a private Slack Connect channel, with optional weekly strategy calls. You talk directly to Razvan, with no account manager or project manager in between, and full ownership of every file, asset, code base, and Framer site transfers to you.
Clients, credibility, and recognition
Design Pickle publishes client case metrics and testimonials on its site from marketing and brand teams across startups and established companies. Third-party review sites show a mix of praise for volume and speed on routine assets, and criticism around consistency, unused daily hours, and fit for higher-stakes creative work.
Artone has delivered 80+ projects for companies with a combined valuation of $1B+. Our clients have raised over $10M in combined funding, and 2 out of 3 clients come back. Our work has been recognized by Awwwards, Effie Awards, Contra, Landbook, and Orpetron, including a Framer Site of the Year nomination, and we are an Official Framer Expert.

When Artone is the better fit
- You need product design, UX, and prototypes, not only marketing visuals.
- You want the same team to design and build your website, web app, or MVP.
- You want a product partner who helps decide what to build and challenges assumptions.
- You need one team across product, web, brand, development, and motion, without coordinating vendors.
- You want to talk directly to the person leading the work, not only through a request queue.
- You have one defined project and want a fixed price instead of a subscription.
When Design Pickle is a good fit
- You need a high volume of social graphics, ads, presentations, print, or illustration work on a predictable flat rate.
- Your product and engineering work is covered in-house, and design support is mainly for marketing production.
- You want Canva templates, motion, or video editing inside the same creative subscription.
- You prefer a self-serve request platform with Slack updates and capacity sized in daily creative hours.
- You are fine with quote-based pricing after a consultation and quarterly or annual billing.
Before signing any subscription, our checklist for design subscriptions walks through what to ask about scope, capacity, and terms.
Final take
Design Pickle is a solid option for teams that need scalable graphic production through a managed creative subscription, especially when the brief is clear and the work stays inside marketing assets. But a graphics queue is not a product partner, and its own scope stops before UI/UX, apps, and development. For technology companies that need someone to think through the product, then design, build, and ship it with one senior team, Artone Studio is the stronger choice. If that sounds like what you need, book a call with us and we will walk through your roadmap.
